Independent Advocacy Service

It is not always easy to speak up and be assertive as a user of mental health services. Users feel in a less powerful position than the professionals looking after them, and they feel there are several real dangers - not being listened to, being too defensive, and conflicts being set up.

Advocates give help and support in getting the patient's message across, and being a source of information for users. This all helps in the empowerment of users. Advocates are independent of mental health services and therefore there is no conflict of interest

WordsWorth delivers a professional independent advocacy service working in Mental Health Hospitals, including secure establishments, to help to safeguard users’ rights - both rights under mental health policy and law, and rights as citizens. No-one is prevented from accessing the service because of a difference in language, culture, disability or capacity.
