Advocates can help support users in relation to the following situations (and others that are too numerous to mention):
- Admission/discharge from hospital
- Care assessments and programmes
- Complex legal jargon and court procedures
- Tribunals
- Mental Health Act Hospital Managers' meetings
- Reviews and case conferences
- Investigations and complaints
- Requests to change doctors, key workers
Mental Health Advocacy is always a fully confidential service and is there to help users with mental health problems. Anything users say is passed on to others only with his/her full consent.
An advocate always promotes and safeguards the user(s) interest. Users have a right to choose and the advocate is there to support him/her.
