Situations

Examples of Situations where an Advocate Assists

Advocates can help support users in relation to the following situations (and others that are too numerous to mention):

  • Admission/discharge from hospital

  • Care assessments and programmes

  • Complex legal jargon and court procedures

  • Tribunals

  • Mental Health Act Hospital Managers' meetings

  • Reviews and case conferences

  • Investigations and complaints

  • Requests to change doctors, key workers

Mental Health Advocacy is always a fully confidential service and is there to help users with mental health problems. Anything users say is passed on to others only with his/her full consent.

An advocate always promotes and safeguards the user(s) interest. Users have a right to choose and the advocate is there to support him/her.
